About Valerie...

Hey there, stranger :).

I’m Valerie. I’m studying to be an archivist so that I can work with historical sources up-close. I originally wanted to be an historian so this is actually my Plan B. I’m excited to see where it takes me. Ethnically, I’m Chinese (my grandmother was from China; my father is from Singapore), but I’ve lived my whole life in Australia.

I like to talk about writing; I love to talk about stories; I’d like to get into poetry but I don’t know where to start right now. I like to run, and I started capoeira this year and love it (I’m Iúna to any capoeiristas out there :).) I game a little but I’m not much of a gamer (in fact, I can name the one game I’m playing: Skyrim).

And, finally, the reason we’re here: I’m trying to get my hands on some real live post! I’m always curious about people—about what they do, and why they do it. So, without further ado, postcard suggestions:

I’ll be happy with practically anything but these subjects would be particularly cheering:
- monsters. I love monsters. Mythical, folklore monsters. Demons. Random cartoon monsters
- anything to do with myth/folklore generally, especially the gruesome ones. Scenes from stories; magical beings/gods…
-drawings/sketches/paintings of people and/or places, or just cartoons
some place or something you love (just tell me why). Or just a postcard you like the look of.
-history-related/culture-related
-transport like trains
-streetart
-houses
- well-known district that is known for something—cafes, students, musicians, hipster areas, markets, whatever
-people
- I actually don't mind ad ones if it looks interesting and it's an event or something. Just tell me what's going on if it's not in English!
-the usual landscape, monument and building ones with the aim of getting an idea of what it looks like where you live! Preferably nothing too tourist-y like a photo of the Eiffel Tower lit against the night sky sort of thing. If it focused on some other interesting detail, that would be swell.

Don’t go out of your way to find these, though. If you have them already, that’d be great! I’d be happy just to receive something.

I would love to read something about you, too.
-What are you reading and how are you finding it?
-What are you going to do today?
-Did something exciting happen to you recently?
-Did something boring happen to you recently?
-Something you’re passionate about and why
-Introduce me to your friend/family member/lover—what are they like? Why do you -love/hate/feel neutral about them?
-Rant
-Where would you like to travel?
-Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Or 10?
-Do you have a connection with what’s represented on the postcard? Tell me about it!
-Describe a memory you have
- If you write poetry, go ahead!

If you could date your card, that would be swell. And tell me if you'd like to hear back—if you do, include your return address :).
