About Heather...

I’m from Western Massachusetts originally, but have lived in Los Angeles 25+ years now. I work as a film archivist, so of course I love movies. Film Noir is my favorite genre. I love seeing LA in the 1940s and 50s in these films. Dan Duryea and Robert Ryan are my favorite Noir actors.

I love gardening with California native plants, and am very interested in trying to help save biodiversity. I like photoing the birds, native bees, etc. in my yard, and trying to learn what everything is, using iNaturalist. I love National Parks and hiking, traveling and genealogy.

I live in Northeast LA in the San Rafael hills, so it’s hilly and more green around me than you might expect for LA. I love drinking chai tea and trying new food (especially desserts!) and exploring the city. I really missed eating in restaurants and going to movies during the pandemic.

I’ve been learning Irish via Zoom classes and Duolingo for 3 years now. I would love to get a postcard written in Irish! Feel free to use the other languages I list too!

I would love to hear about your favorite local food, your hobbies, your daily life, what you like about where you live, what you suggest a visitor to your region see or do that is lesser known, etc.

Looking for card suggestions? Postcards depicting the city or region you’re mailing from, Postcrossing meetups you’ve been to, or your national parks, public gardens, museums, culture, food(especially bread and desserts), tea, your country’s native plants, pollinators, wildflowers or wildlife, autumn, the 24 solar terms, Lunar new year, Aurora borealis or australis (on my bucket list to see), anything Jane Austen (esp. Darcy), anything Slytherin (esp. Snape, and Dumbledore is cool, but definitely none of those Goody-Two Shoes main characters, lol). I also ❤️ Corgis and wombats, and illustrated animals, especially foxes 🦊 and rabbits 🐰 and bears 🐻 🐼 and bumblebees 🐝.

I love all holidays. Happy to get cards for any of them (including my birthday) if the timing is right, and ones that we don’t celebrate in the U.S.? Even more interesting! I especially love nengajo.

Can’t wait to receive special postal treats like maxicards, 風景印(Fukei-in), Postcrossing stamps, and other things I don’t even know about yet! I love looking at all the beautiful stamps I receive, and handmade cards and decorations like stickers and washi tape are most welcome too. I know some people use favorites like a wish list for cards they want, but my favorites are cards I have received and particularly liked.

Oh, and I know that if you're reading this, you are sending ME a card, not the other way around, but please, if your country uses a different alphabet/characters, please offer your address in both your own language AND English. I would much rather take a few minutes to carefully copy your address in your own language to help improve its chances of getting there faster! Thank you!
