First of all:
Please share the truth about Putin‘s attack on Ukraine with the Postcrossing friends there. Russia, backed by Belarus, has attacked Ukraine to the point where a brutal war is raging. Many Russians receive only censored state television and are unaware that Putin has invaded Ukraine and heavy fighting is raging in Kiev and other cities. They don't know that Putin also attacks civilian targets such as apartment buildings and hospitals. The news in Russia is censored, there is no independent reporting. Russian soldiers have to fight against their brothers in the neighboring country. Many Russian parents do not know that their sons have been sent to war as soldiers. There have been far too many deaths, on both sides. Large sections of the Russian population do not know the truth! Please consider writing about this on your postcard and maybe also in your Postcrossing profile. Russia has a big Postcrossing community and it's one of the few networks that is still open in Russia. If we can make a difference, stop Putin and bring peace back to Ukraine, back to Europe. That would be the least we can do.
Also I would like to mention that I know that there’s many people in Russia who already know the truth and that are just as shocked as the rest of the world. I express my biggest respect to those that are protesting unter threat of punishment (doesn’t this say it all about this system?). I'm praying for the russian people that they will become a free and truly democratic society soon!
