Grandfather, Geek, Reader,
I live in a suburb of Chicago which is rich in history. As the site of the 1894 Columbian Exposition, it saw the construction of the first Ferris Wheel designed by (who else) Mr. George Ferris. The Chicago Fire allowed the city to rebuild and it has been the home of great architecture ever since. It's the Windy City not because of the weather, but all the blow-hard in City Hall.
I am an avid reader. I focus on 50% mysteries and the rest of all types. I like biographies of founding fathers. Science Fiction with a good story and believable science. You can find my whole list on Goodreads.com.
I grew up in Iowa, went to school in Kansas, and got my Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in Chemistry. Of course, no one has ever paid me for my chemistry. My heritage is German, my Great Grandfather was from Hoxel, Morbach, Rhineland-Platz, Germany. I make traditional Springerle every Christmas.
My wife of 47 years and I have six granddaughters who make everything worthwhile.
I love to travel but have only made it to France, Mexico, and Canada outside of the US. Someday I will win the lottery and them come to collect all the cards I've sent out.
