About Kayla...

Hi!
My name is Kayla. I am 24 years old. I am a registered nurse. I work at a behavioral health hospital (to many known as a psychiatric hospital). My passion is helping others overcome mental illnesses by learning to manage it in their everyday lives, as well as showing them that they are able to do all the same things someone without a mental illness are able to do, just at the expense of having to work harder. Currently, I work on a unit that deals with substance abuse and alcoholism. Although many will debate, addiction is also an illness. I have personally struggled with depression and severe anxiety since my teenage years. Feeling like I can make/or have made a difference to just one person is reward enough for me.

I have had many pen pals from all over the world. Unfortunately, nursing school and my now nursing career, takes up most of my time, and I am not able to sit and write/make letters like I would like to. That’s why I am so excited to start this postcrossing journey.

Anyways, some things I love in no particular order:
-Elephants (I love animals of all kinds, but elephants are special)
-Mermaids
-Disney (especially The Little Mermaid)
-Postal stamps (so if possible, please no electronic stamps; the more on the card the better ;)
-Antiques
-Maps
-Botany
-Newspaper clippings from countries other than the USA
-Nature/ waterfalls/ landscapes/ city views
-Literature (I love to read! Fantasy is my favorite genre)
-Myths, folklore, legends, fairytales
-Things of the “Mystic Arts” ie. tarot cards, fortune telling, etc.
-Anything odd like Ernst Haeckel’s “Natural Curiosities” or random pictures of things that most would find odd, out of the ordinary, or unexplainable
-Psychology
-Astrology (I’m a Leo by the way)
-Learning about other cultures & religions
-Crafting
-Traveling
-History (if you would, I would love to receive cards with a historical significance to your country and a little handwritten explanation would make my day!)
-Photography
-Poetry/ philosophical quotes
-Coffee (mostly frozen frappes)
-and of course postcards

Although it would be nice to receive cards of things I like, I find most things from other places interesting, and I will love whatever is sent. I would also be interested in direct swaps (I find it special to form relationships with my fellow pen pals/postcrossers that last for longer than one postcard that doesn’t receive a response) so if that is something you would like to do, please feel free to include that on your postcard. If you would also write a little about yourself and where you’re from, that would be great too! Oh and something a lot of people forget! The DATE! Please write the date on your card.

I look forward to receiving tiny windows into other worlds!
Happy postcrossing!!
