I am a nursing student in Michigan. I love animals, especially dogs. I train/show my two dogs "Quincy" (male yellow lab/golden retriever cross) and "Brennan" (male black lab) in flyball, dock diving, and agility. Both are also therapy dogs. We visit multiple hospitals and nursing homes, bringing comfort to those who need it. It's a simple thing, but it helps. The dogs are bright spots in what can be cloudy days. I am raising my 7th assistance dog puppy, a male yellow lab/golden retriever cross named "Mowgli" (like The Jungle Book), for Leader Dogs for the Blind, in the hopes that one day he'll be someone's eyes and best friend. I get each puppy when he is 7-weeks-old, teach him the basics and socialize him, exposing him to everything he may see with his future blind partner, and then give him back for his formal training when he is 14-16 months of age. Yes, it is super hard to say goodbye. But these special pups have a higher purpose. They will give someone the freedom I have in my own life. I like kitties, too, we have 3 (Cali, Hope, Ollie). I am also a total nerd. If it's remotely nerdy, chances are good that I love it. This would include Harry Potter, Star Wars, World of Warcraft, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Downton Abbey and Firefly. I love reading (favorite books include Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, and all of John Green's books, especially Paper Towns and The Fault In Our Stars), hiking, photography, Detroit sports (Go Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings!) and participating in anything that brings out the good in humanity. I am genuinely excited about this project and love connecting with people around the world!
