About John...

Hello Postcrossing Friends!

I've been married to the same woman since 1981, and we have 3 adult children - 2 sons, 1 daughter. Some of the things I enjoy doing are hiking, reading, watching movies, biking, traveling, and doing home renovation projects.

Several years ago I was in the gift shop of the Philadelphia Zoo with my daughter. Upon encountering the postcard rack, I said to her, "I wish there was someone I knew who liked postcards, because I always see them and want to send one." Her immediate response was, "You can send them to me. It can be our thing." So, ever since then we have been sending postcards to each other. This is somewhat amusing to me, because much of the time we've been sending cards to each other we have lived in the same house. But we are both happy to be receiving postcards!

I've always found it to be fun to send postcards. I think I like sending them as much as I like receiving them. I spend a lot of time looking at the postcard racks and try to select cards to send that I would like to receive myself. Sometimes my wife wonders what takes me so long to select something that I'm going to give to someone else, but sometimes she gets just as particular about the postcards as me.

I do enjoy it whenever I receive a postcard. It never fails to make me smile when I realize that someone has sent one to me. I don't know which I like more - the picture or the brief note - probably it is the combination.

I'm looking forward to seeing what interesting cards I receive from my new friends at Postcrossing! I am not going to ask for any particular type of card, because, to me, the surprise of not knowing what type of card might come my way is one of the most fascinating things about the Postcrossing project, and I don't want to dampen the surprise by making suggestions. Any card is good, really - the picture in combination with the message on back is usually a fun moment of discovery. There is often some bit of information that makes me want to get more information and I wind up searching the web on the topic. Just as often there are interesting facts or comments that I share with my family.

I like when the postcards are dated. This way when I look at them again years from now I will know when I received it.

I wish you health and happiness.

-John-
