About Julia...

My name is Julia and I live in London with a gorgeous tuxedo cat, Ezra. I've always loved to send and receive post and I find the process of matching each profile with a card, writing a message and sending it on its way very satisfying and therapeutic. I'm fascinated by the way a postcard takes on a whole new identity once it's been chosen and personalised but maybe I'm just strange! Buying postcards is also so addictive.

I'm trying (emphasis on trying) to build a career involving writing and historical research. I specialise in the history of theatre and the performing arts in the Victorian era and the first half of the twentieth century. I also work as a proofreader and editor for students and researchers – feel free to get in touch if that's something I can help you with :)

Every card is treasured and the surprise is part of what makes Postcrossing so much fun. However, if you're looking for pointers, these are a few of my favourite things:

- Art (whatever you find beautiful and/or striking!)
- Theatre, ballet, opera
- Books, book illustrations, libraries, bookshops, authors
- Architecture and architectural details
- Fashion, textiles, interiors
- All things Victorian, Edwardian, 1920s, 1930s...
- Historical women; feminist history and equal rights
- Nature
- Landscapes, landmarks, city views, tourist cards. I don't mind at all if they're from your city/country or further afield.
- Miscellaneous: cemeteries, carousels, tea, typography, piano, paper ephemera

I'd just prefer not to receive cards featuring nudity, sports, cartoons/animé/fandom (chances are they'd be lost on me!), military themes, politicians or religious messages, please.

Thanks very much in advance and I look forward to hearing from you. If you find yourself stuck, I'd love to hear about your favourite museum in your city/country, or a book recommendation. Never, ever apologise for your English. I feel very guilty about my limited language skills as a lazy native English speaker. If you're a Russian or French speaker, please feel free to write in your language.
