I spent almost two years (1964 - 1966) in Algeria with a group called IVS (International Voluntary Service) similar to the US Peace Corp. I purchased a Vespa motor scooter in Rome, rode it around Europe and North Africa as far as Istanbul. Then hitch hiked from Istanbul through Middle East and across North Africa back to Algeria.
