About Carlton...

Hello everyone,
I teach land surveying at the University of Maine in Orono Maine. My wife has been to Europe many times, and has a brother who has lived in Germany for 30 years, but I have not been to any other country except for several provinces of Canada (and to Puerto Rico several years ago, which really isn’t a separate country from the United States although it is not (yet) one of the states of the United States of America). However, I travel with Postcrossing! We have also had several college students from Norway, Finland and Germany stay with us through CouchSurfing.
I enjoy studying physics and astronomy as a layperson. Albert Einstein is my hero! The more I learn about Einstein and his contemporaries, the more impressed I am at how they all contributed to the advancement of science!
As I get older I realize that life is worth living because of anticipation and hope. Some things for which I look forward are the discovery of the Higgs Boson and the discovery of life somewhere else than on our planet, Earth.
Getting older has not bothered me, but after I turned 60 years old I just did not feel 60. And the thought of next being 61 was not something I looked forward to. So I have decided that I will start getting "younger" each birthday. After turning 60 my next birthday was "59" years old, then the next year "58" years old. Thus I am now "55" years, and next year I will turn "54" years old!
I would enjoy postcards that give me an idea about what it is like to live on your street, your neighborhood, your city or town, your country. Even the things that seem boring to you would be fascinating to me since I know so little about what it is to live in another part of the world. In fact, any postcard that you send will be appreciated and will add to my education of the world! So surprise me!!
Be happy!
