About Lori...

Hi all,

My name is Lori and I come from Taipei(the capital of Taiwan). I have studied and worked in Chicago for three years before, so I had a chance visiting most of the states in the U.S. And then, I was so addicted to traveling and really enjoy sending and receiving postcards from around the world!

Although I am now working in the accounting firm, I dreamed of being a historian when I was young. Therefore, I would like to travel as many historical sites in the world as possible.

I am happy with any kinds of postcards and like especially
- the UNESCO and world heritage,
- national parks,
- strange & fantastic buildings architecture,
- city views / traditions of your country,
- drawing-style or design, or
- children's illustrations: Totoro,Moomin or Jip and Janneke, etc.

It will be great if you could introduce your city/country to me, so I can have some ideas and may consider that city/country as my next destination.:) You can also write something about yourself or some short words in your language(so as the English translation). I will be very happy to know you and I am interested in seeing the special writings of each language!

Finally, the envelope is not necessary and the beautiful stamps are very welcomed (I am still collecting the stamps now!):P And please do not send me the advertisement cards, photo cards, or self-made cards.:)

Thank you and happy post-crossing! ^_________^

Lori

History : Taiwan(ROC) v.s. China(PRC)
The earliest evidence of inhabitation of Taiwan dates back to the late Paleolithic era. The island of Taiwan was mainly inhabited by Taiwanese aborigines before being colonized in the 17th century by the Dutch and the Spanish Empire.
The first Han Chinese polity on Taiwan began when Koxinga's troops defeated Dutch forces. The island was subsequently ruled by the Qing Dynasty for over 200 years. Following Japan's victory over the Qing Dynasty, Taiwan was ceded to Japan under the Treaty of Shimonoseki in 1895.
The Republic of China (ROC) was established in mainland China in 1912. At the end of World War II, Japan surrendered Taiwan to ROC forces in 1945. When Communist forces took control of mainland China and founded the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, the ROC government moved to Taiwan.
Since the founding of the PRC, international recognition of the ROC has gradually eroded as most countries switched recognition to the PRC. In 1971, the PRC took China's seat at the United Nations. Now only few countries in the world recognize the ROC as a sovereign state and maintain formal diplomatic relations with us.
However, Taiwan has experienced rapid economic growth and industrialization in late 20th. Taiwan is also ranked highly in democracy and freedom. Therefore, I am proud of my country.
