CORONA UPDATE JUNE 2020
This is a strange time... Due to restrictions, I have stayed at or near home for three months (so far). Little or no travel (only one trip out), not even up to London. My postcards are doing my travelling for me! I have not noticed any significant UK postal delays though. Stay safe and well, everyone!
I used to work in London - an easy commute - but I have been retired for a while now. I live in a small town in the south of the county of Essex, on the north bank of the river Thames. We are about 20-25 miles east of central London, just over half an hour on the train, so it is easy to visit for museums, galleries, concerts etc. In the other direction, I can soon be in Southend-on-Sea and go to the beach!
My main hobby is choral singing. I belong to several choirs (mainly classical music) and it keeps me busy on several days each week - well, it did - who knows when we will be able to start again (it is NOT the same via Zoom!)?. I also like to visit local nature reserves (there are many around the Thames Estuary and Essex coast), gardens, museums, galleries and historic buildings. It is even better when they have a nice café to enjoy tea and cakes afterwards! I also enjoy watching most sports.
Postcrossing is such a great way to learn more about the world! If you need some ideas then the cards that I would most look forward to receiving are those that tell me something about your country or the town where you live. These could include, in no particular order:
💙 landscapes and scenic or city views
💙 buildings of any type (inside or outside)
💙 civil engineering structures like bridges, dams etc.
💙 statues, monuments and memorials
💙 animals, birds, fish, plants etc. of your country
💙 local culture and customs
💙 exhibits from local museums and galleries
💙 famous people from your country (historical and present day)
💙 maps and flags of your town or region
I don't mind multi-view cards. I would prefer to receive postcards stamped and on their own (NOT in an envelope please!) through the post as it is much more fun when you first see them on the mat!
Finnish Postcrossers especially - I have received a few of Inge Löök's Old Ladies cards (Nos. 23, 60). I would love to see more of them!
I hope to learn even more about the world through Postcrossing! Thank you for reading my profile.
