Hello my fellow Postcrosser!
I'm Kaarna, a 34-year-old Postcrosser, and the best thing about Postcrossing for me is that exciting feeling when I see a new card I've received and am about to read a message from someone I have never met!
I'm a doctoral student on transgender studies at Helsinki University. I really like reading, tea, house plants, and spending time with my friends. If you could, please recommend me a writer from your country. My dream is to read a book from every country in the world. (I decided to start this from zero so as of July 2021 I'm only at 25 countries.)
The languages: My Finnish and English are pretty good, and I get regular practice of both. So if you speak Swedish or French well, please write me in those languages. I will try to understand you, and it'll be fun!
If you like making cards yourself, I'd be honoured to receive a card made by you. My favourites wall is cards I don't have, so if you are one of those people who likes to look through them and match cards or look for themes, wow, I'm thankful!
I'd like to hear about the person behind the postcard. We are all human and struggle with the same important questions and emotions, so don't be afraid to say more than the usual greetings. Feel free to tell me anything you wish to share with me; I would love to hear something personal about you.
For example, you can tell me about:
your first love
first (or last!) job, or school (day), or postcard, or book, or hobby
the highlight of your day
a book,a movie, a song, or a poem that has an emotional meaning to you
how do you identify (e.g. I'm trans&queer, a bookworm, a feminist, a wannabe academic...)
what are you most proud of in your life
what would you do if you had absolute power for one day
what are you looking forward to in the future
whom do you admire most
what would you like to study if anything were possible
what is the most north and south, an east and west, points you have been in the world
or anything you feel like telling me :)
You could also recommend me your favourite book! Or a good author from your country!
If you are at a loss for what kind of card to send, here is a list of themes that are important to me in one way or another.
-art (paintings, drawings, literature, book covers, dance, film, graffiti, theatre, music, performance...)
-transgender or playing with gender or gender stereotypes
-Vincent van Gogh, Gerda Wegener, Edvard Munch, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, John Waterhouse, Alfons Mucha, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Marc Chagall, or surprise me with your favorite artist!
-traditional Japanese art
-something totally weird
-stormy sea or sky
-the French language
