About Paulius...

I was born in Panevėžys, Lithuania, which is an unremarkable city in an unremarkable country, though you may well find it of interest if you're into European culture and history. Personally, I think that the cuisine is the best part of it. I grew up loving things like the traditional Lithuanian rye bread, the fantastic vėdarai, and my grandma's special buckwheat porridge. I didn't stay there long, however, as I suddenly moved to Norway during my teenage years.

While going to school in Norway, I learned to ski, catch fish, cook sausages on a camp fire, and generally survive in the wild. That's basically the entire point of their primary education. However, I didn't enjoy the cuisine that much, as Norwegians generally hate buckwheat and they don't have dark rye bread. So, in order to avoid starving to death, I had to go back to Lithuania! 😄

This sort of moving back and forth messed up my mind to the point where I decided to torture myself with the life-threatening Scottish climate for four years while studying Molecular Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. As a result of this, I now regularly sing O Flower of Scotland in my sleep and whistle Scotland the Brave unconsciously. Obviously, I had to be evacuated back to Norway, where I now live and enjoy the quiet life in the introverted society, while learning to cook all sorts of dishes from all over the world.

Throughout these years I've seen a lot of breathtaking views, and I met a lot of different cultures. I use Postcrossing to share those experiences with other people, and, in return, I hope to learn about the experiences of others!

If you're about to send me a postcard:

* Feel free to write to me in any of the languages that I've included in the language section. Also, include something written in your mother tongue, even if it's not on the list (perhaps you know of some cool word, or a fun saying, or any linguistic curiosity specific to your language?)
* Tell me about your favourite dish!
* If you're feeling very talkative, go for a letter! I might reply!

For the postcard itself, I can't, and I don't set any specific requirements, and I will enjoy whatever you send me. However, if you'd like to tailor a postcard to my hobbies and interests, here they are:

* Pictures involving regional or national cuisine of your country.
* Films and anything cinema related. If your country has examples of good cinema, I'd really like to know! Tell me your Letterboxd ID!
* Literature. Have you got a postcard with some famous writer or poet of your country? Include a quote from their work!
* Classical Music and Film Music.
* Socialism, Socialist history and Socialist leaders & revolutionaries. Agitational postcards (anti-fascism, anti-racism, women’s liberation, etc.) Postcards about communist movements and political parties, past or present. If you've got anything of the sort, send them over to me!
