About Michelle...

Greetings from Kelowna!

My name is Michelle.
I am a mother, a cultural anthropologist, & a university instructor of Anthropology, Sociology, & Gender Studies.

My preference is for (typically, single image) photo style postcards that show:

1)places that if I were to visit you, you'd think I should visit (waterfalls, historically or archaeologically significant buildings/places; or scenes of the moon, aurora borealis, or rainbows with local scenery. I also like city or region views with the name of the city or region (state, province, country) on the front.

2)local people or families (diverse types) :-)
a) participating in everyday activities or cultural events (festivals, rugby, outdoor markets); indigenous people from your area {esp. if they are Sámi or other indigenous reindeer herders, [inc. Evenks,] but others very welcome too - I have Sami ancestry - I'd love a Sámi flag postcard, or even a queer Sámi flag!} :-)
b) local people of non-normative/creative/queer/LGBT* genders and sexualities especially welcome. Don't go searching for such postcards as they may not even exist, but if you have one, I'd love it, & please tell me about who is shown :-) OR
c) women/mothers who are either everyday people or strong, historical, or significant people; or families as a whole or parts thereof

3)characters or things relating to regional folktales (including cryptozoology), myths, legends (trolls, fairies, people, or animals) > feel free to tell me about a story featuring that character OR characters (and stamps) related to Star Wars, particularly Leia, Rey, and Han Solo (or Indian Jones)

4)orangutans, chimpanzees, gorillas, lemurs, and other primates

6)"Keep Calm and..." cards, if the ending is related to Anthropology, Feminism, something queer, or being Canadian. :-)

Check out my favourites to spark ideas. (They are of postcards that I have not yet received.)

I don't really like "cute"/cartoony or anime stuff.
I'm also not one for Christmas (I make an exception for "God Jul" with trolls - love them!) or Easter specific cards.
Nor am I a fan of ad cards.

I like some homemade cards, if they are done well (creative but not tacky). Please no cut up cereal or kitty litter boxes.

Feel free to tell me about what life is like where you live and what you enjoy doing.

Si vous êtes francophone, s'il vous plaît écrivez-moi en français. :-)

I look forward to hearing from you. I'm sure I'll love whatever you send! :-)

-Michelle
