About Maureen...

Thank you everyone on Postcrossing. I learn so much especially about living here and about your country.

I lived most of my life in Northern New Jersey in a city less than 16 km from New York City. Paterson In fact, I could always see the skyline of New York from various highways... I saw the smoke from the burning buildings on 9/11.

A few years ago, I moved to the Jersey Shore...Seaside Heights area. Wow! What a change.

Wikipedia does not capture the essence of my town or area. There is a beautiful spirit here and a love for the beach and ocean.
Summer is coming.. . The population goes from about 2,000 to 40,000. I had visited the Jersey Shore for periods of time every summer.

LIFE HERE SINCE THE CORONAVIRUS

Everything has changed.. New Jersey is considered in the Metro New York or TriState area. I live in the epicenter of the coronavirus virus. This is a highly populated area so there are more deaths and hospitalizations. What one Governor of a state rules, the other states will also rule the same. If New Jersey closed it’s beach, so would Connecticut and New York. The states are close and people travel across the state lines freely.

There are strict restrictions here. I must wear a mask if out in public and keep a distance of 6 feet. There are lines to get into a store as they will only allow a certain amount of people. I was amazed that the supermarkets had so many empty shelves. I realized how many choices I once had but I am adjusting. There are several restaurants that have delivery or you can order then pick up your food so I will not starve. Mostly everything is closed.

I am in self quarantine (and stay at home orders)..so I miss not seeing my friends or going out for dinner.

I live down the Shore which is located about 80 miles from New York City. I don’t think it’s crowded here except in the summer.

Hopefully, soon, I will tell you all about this wonderful area I live in. I hope you are coping with this situation. Please feel free to tell me about it.

There are no postcards here. It is beach and boardwalk...and it is a very nice beach. No castles except for sand castles. Hurricane Sandy decimated most of the coast line 7 years ago. They are still rebuilding. About 1 1/2 years after that there was a fire on the boardwalk that destroyed the progress that was made. That has been rebuilt.

I have 1 cat. He is 9 years old.

I have just adopted 2 kittens from the shelter and they are 'wild.' Jumping, climbing, annoying my other cat, and laying across the computer. They always make me laugh so all is good.

enjoy reading especially mysteries.
TV---mysteries
Movies---almost all

Enjoy learning about the history of places, touring old houses, museums, art galleries, Antique shops.

I enjoy gardening but the deer also enjoy the flowers.

I have so many likes that I could not possibly enumerate them. All postcards are welcomed...
