About Iris...

Hello.

My name is Iris.
My favourite element is water:
Sitting at the Rhine, a big river nearby, and watching ships is something I like to do. My travels brought me to the Atlantic & Pacific, North, Baltic, Black & Mediterranean Sea + Lake Balaton. My sports are swimming + aqua-jogging (and I'm a little bit proud about my header). Last but not least: my zodiak-sign is pisces.

Why my name is Lorelai here:
The Loreley rock is located in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley near Sankt Goarshausen, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. This section of the Rhine is considered to be very dangerous because of its tight curves and rocky bottom.
Legends grew up around the rock early on, as there was a strong echo.
The legend of the Loreley:
In the old days, a virgin could sometimes be seen on the Loreley at dusk and under the moonlight.
She sang in a voice so lovely that it charmed all who heard it. Many who drove by were torn down by the rocky reef in the river because they no longer paid attention to their boats. Clemens von Brentano and Heinrich Heine - both belong to the Romantic era - brought the myth of the Loreley into the world.
I like the Loreley in two ways: as a myth and the landscape on the Rhine. And both are typically German for me.

If you don't know what to write:
Tell me something about your nation: what ist typical for the people or your native country? What is the most interesting issue people talking about today?
Searching for a postcard-motive:
Send me something with water - the Ocean next to your land, a river, a lake, a sea horse, fog, rainy days or a water-drop. And I'm interested in UNESCO WHS postcards. Sometime a Tamara-de-Lempicka postcard. That's something I always like to find in my letterbox.

If your card to me seems to expire,
please leave me a message per e-mail.

Cards that are travelling somewhere and might reach their destination one day ;-)
