About Monette...

I'm married and have 6 grown kids -- the joys of my life! I own a Maine made gift shop on the riverfront in Hallowell, Maine -- something I absolutely love doing! I enjoy travelling but haven't done nearly as much as I would like.

I greatly enjoy 19th century English literature -- especially Dickens. I always say that if I'd started reading Dickens as a teenager I would have been a better person a lot sooner than I became one, because Dickens was a wonderful observer of human nature. He had the ability to magnify the natural foibles, faults, and follies that we see every day in the people we know, and even the people we love. He took these traits and blew them up into full, colorful characters, allowing the reader to examine, as if under a microscope, some not-so-pleasant intricacies of human nature. If we're careful we can see in Dickens' characters the people we know, and if we're honest, we can see ourselves.

My favorite part of owning a Maine made gift shop is getting to know the artists, crafters, and makers who sell their work here. They are each so passionate about what they do that I can't keep from catching that passion myself. It's just a whole lot of fun to then share that passion with the people, both locals and tourists, who come into my little shop. I talk about the artists as much as I can, and consider myself blessed to have been put in a position to be able to share their work with my little corner of the world, and any who happen upon it.

I love movies, but I really learned how to watch them properly from my youngest daughter, who is 25 now. From her I learned to study character and plot development, and to acknowledge and appreciate questions that are asked but left unanswered except for a hope or an expectation, because sometimes that's all that's required. Hope is much more important than answers anyway.

I love music, especially oldies, like music from the 1940's, '50's, and '60's. My favorite TV shows are Star Trek Voyager, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul!

I will be absolutely thrilled with any postcards that I get, from anywhere in the world, on any subject that is of interest to anyone who sends me one.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile! I look forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best!
