About KettleofSeveralFish...

TEMPORARY REQUEST
My partner and I got engaged recently, and I thought it would be really cool if you could write something about what you value in a long term relationship, or something you’ve learnt about good relationships over your life (doesn’t have to be romantic/marital relationships either—good friends, colleagues, anything that has lasted or that you want to last for a long time).

REGULAR BIO
I'm from Brisbane, the third largest city in Australia. I studied linguistics at university and now create writing resources for schools and design escape rooms.

I would love it if you could tell me your favourite folktale or fairytale! If it's a long one, just give me the name and a bit of a summary so I can look it up :D Or, if you’re not really into stories, tell me an interesting fact you know, or a quote/proverb in your language that resonates with you.

My favourite folktale is called Hans im Glück, about a man who is given a pile of gold, and as he journeys home he does a chain of trades (gold for cow, cow for pig, pig for chicken, chicken for some cloth, etc.) until he ends up with nothing but happiness. (There’s also a very funny song called Pierre and Marianne which is a variation of the story).

A fact that I think is really cool is that puffball mushrooms can launch their spores into the air at a higher G-force than a rocket being launched into space!

And a quote I resonate with is “If a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind, of what then is an empty desk a sign?” (attributed to Einstein), because anything that makes me feel better about the state of my desk gets a big thumbs up from me.

I love collecting stamps of all kinds. And I love all kinds of postcards, especially handmade/self-designed, free/ad cards, and cards that have sat in your stash for a really long time because you thought it was interesting but haven’t found a profile that matches it. If you like matching cards to theme requests, I really like birds, fungi, ships (especially sailing ships), folklore, and cultural traditions/icons.
