About Joke...

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE because of the lost lives, because of so many destroyed homes, schools, hospitals, and even completely destroyed cities, such as Marijupol, Kharkov, Bucha, Borodjanka. And because of the horrible things that have been done to citizens of Ukraine (men, women and children) by (some of the) Russian soldiers. PLEASE PLEASE mr. Poetin, Wagner group and Russian military: uphold the Geneva Conventions! Treat the Ukrainian civilians - and the Ukrainian soldiers - as you would like to be treated. Keep houses, hospitals, food supplies, power plants and dams whole and safe. Don't steal children!

AND MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE RUSSIAN PEOPLE, because they are involved in a war and are not allowed by their government to know the truth about it. Listen to your friends and relatives in and from Ukraine and believe what they tell you about their experiences.
Because of the people from regions like Buryatia and Dagestan who died, some very young. Because of the risk for the people now the Russian criminals who have terrorized Ukraine return home.
I admire the Russians who risk 15 years in prison when they speak out against the war, and still many did, and do.

My name is Joke (pronounced Joukə, it is short for Joanna), and my age 63.
I went to library school and was a librarian for a long time. Now I'm mainly a web editor.

What I like about Postcrossing is that people from all over the world share something about their interests, write something in their own language, or tell about how their week was.

I'm interested in cards and stories about:
- seasons, seasonal festivals (for instance Samhain, Jul, Korochun, Nowruz, Holi, Kupala, Chuseok, Tsukimi, etc.), seasonal traditions (like martenitsa, Easter eggs, Laternelaufen, wassailing, kakizome, didukhy, etc.), harvest festivals and (Pagan) traditions; and myths, legends, folktales and original fairy tales (not Disney versions!)
- nature: trees and woods / forests (Białowieża!), wild plants and wild flowers (native species and local herbs, including 'weeds'), snowdrops, iris and fuchsia flowers, and birds (great tits and blue tits especially).
- traditional music / musical instruments and (folk) dancing
- architecture specific to countries or regions
- views of cities and villages and the countryside
- wall paintings (murals, street art)
- textile art, spinning, weaving, embroidery, lace (and cards with textile or yarn such as in my avatar)
- libraries and bookshops
- 'ivory cats' (by Lesley Anne Ivory)
and in the card you select for me, and your story!

I like to read fantasy literature and non-fiction (about religions, geography, languages, nature).

I like cycling in the area around my city and watching the landscape that changes with the seasons. I am very happy that I now have an allotment to grow vegetables and fruit and flowers.

From my too many favourite cards I removed most of the little yellow birds, irises and snowdrops. Still like those!
