About Stephanie...

About my city
I live in a city at the border to Germany and France. It is an artsy, edgy place, full of life and lots of people with different backgrounds. The city dates back into celtic age and has a lot of history. The different centuries mix and mingle together so you find age old places right next to hyper modern buildings. Since Basel has the oldest university of Switzerland the city is a typical student town with small cafés, cool bars and clubs. There are awesome events all year round but I like it most during Summer days when it gets so warm you can go and sit down by the Rhine at the Buvette (small bars only open during Summer), listen to free concerts (with a stage raft right in the Rhine) and cool off in the waters of the river. In autumn we host one of the largest autumn fairs in Switzerland with lots of rides and candies. November and December are more calm and romantic with a lovely Christmas Market, the Basel wishing book and Christmas decorations all around. And I should not forget to mention the Basel Carnival tradition in February. It has been recently declared an immaterial Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and turns the city on its head for three days. Now these are just a few things about my city, I could go on even more but I run out of space :).

About me
I am currently studying an advanced Master to become a librarian. To gain practical knowledge I intern at five different libraries (four school and one public). I'm hooked on all things SciFi and Fantasy. When my eyes are not glued to the screen or the pages of a book I can be found strolling aimlessly through the city, earplugs in and head way, way up in the clouds. Or I'm at a bustling place trying to find inspiration to continue writing one of my nerdy, half-baked story ideas (just for fun). On rainy or cold days I usually stay indoors, listen to music, trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle (at least 1000 pieces) or do some coloring ;). And I'm also the (slightly proud) head of Free Walking Tours Basel, offering free tours for visitors to Basel. So sometimes when I'm lurking around the town I like to strike up conversations to complete strangers (mostly tourists) to find out what they like about the city and also to tell them what I know of the history and random facts of Basel.

Oh and I really like chocolate with nuts, nuts in general, black tea with way to much sugar and milk, any kind of potato with rosemary and salt, cheese, ice tea, cats, dogs, small rodents, roses, big flowers with nice smells, blue jeans in all shapes and shades, colorful and weird looking stones, buying too expensive guidebooks (Marco Polo) for new places I'm going to visit, cobalt blue, silvery finger rings, cutting vegetables (no idea why), and sleeping in weird places. And of course my friends and family... and my adorable nerd of a girlfriend.
