About Esparky...

Aloha from Hawaii! We moved to Hawaii after a lifetime of working in fire and emergency management in several states and the District of Columbia on the USA mainland. We chose the Big Island of Hawaii because of the natural beauty, bio diversity, climate and relaxed way of life. We live with our old cat in a tropical rainforest at 3800 feet surrounded by hapu'u giant tree ferns and ohia trees. We are three miles from the entrance of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (a World Heritage site) in the small community of Volcano, Hawaii, USA. It takes about ten minutes to drive to the Kilauea Volcano, and it is close enough to our house to see the glow of the lava reflected off of the clouds at night. Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983.

The Big Island is large, over 4000 square miles, and has ten different climate zones from sea level up to almost 14,000 feet in elevation. Because of our altitude, the summer daytime highs are usually in the low to mid-70s F, and the winter daytime highs are usually in the mid-60s F. It can get chilly at night but never cold enough to freeze. We keep two top bar bee hives and have a worm farm for our garden which includes raised beds, containers and a small greenhouse.

All postcards are welcome but a card from your area would be most welcome - natural views, city views, etc.
