I'm interested in finding out about people and places around the world. And it's always a good day when I receive something in the mail that's not bills or ads!
“Geography is the mother of history.” I live in a region that is a geographical, cultural and political crossroads of the U.S., and which is also the population center of the country.
The picture I've used for my profile photo is made from a Kodachrome slide I sold to a postcard company* showing the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. It was taken from the top of a mound at Cahokia Mounds, a World Heritage site. The Native Americans there built the largest city north of Mexico from 1100 AD to 1400 AD and, like the French who founded St. Louis in 1764, they used the location at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to trade with people across much of North America.

P.S. Thanks to Olga from the Russian Federation for posting this link to an organization that provides addresses for sick kids who would like to receive postcards.
