About Rudi...

Hello,
my name is Rudi. I have been married for 40 years and we have an adult son. We live in a small, lovely town in the north of Bavaria (Franconia). Postcrossing is a small window to the world for me, I don´t travel much more. I have been a pensioner for 10 years and I am grateful that I am still healthy and relatively fit. I worked 30 years with children with a difficult social background. Now I am happy to have more time for my hobbies. I love to read mainly novels and non-fiction books about history. Unfortunately I spend too much time in reading newspapers! My wife and I like going to the cinema.
I like hiking very much, in the last decades I did many long distance hikes from hut to hut, especially in the mountains. But I like the sea too, I was in the Navy for 8 years where I had the opportunity to see a little bit of the world.
I love my 3 bikes, I sold my old car years ago, because I like to travel by train. I have a MTB, a racing bike and since 2 months (considering my age) an e-bike. Unfortunately I had to give up my hobby of going into the forest during the winter to make firewood because of rheumatism! For this I take long walks with my neighbour´s dog, which is called "Emma". (Jack Russell). She´s a little bit crazy and causes some excitement in my quiet pensioner´s life.
One day a week I go to the school - together with my wife - to help primary school children with migration background, especially in learning German. It´s a volunteer job.

Several times a year I guide tourist groups through our small town.

I like writing long letters and I think it´s a great pity that this cultural technique is dying out more and more, What´s App, SMS, Mail etc. I sometimes find very useful. But they don´t replace a letter. I hate it to find only bills and advertisements in our mailbox, so I enjoy receiving postcards from all over the world (more than 2000 meanwhile). When I receive postcards from rural and unknown areas I use Google or my old atlas. I like almost all kinds of postcards, but I am not a fan of cards with disguised animals. I try to fulfill postcard wishes if possible! However, I don´t like if the profiles of postcrossers consist exclusively of special postcard wishes. It´s more interesting to learn about the sender.
I wish all postcrossers always a full mailbox with many beautiful postcards.
Above all, I wish young postcrossers valuable contacts all over the world!
