About Piers...

I love to swim and play the saxophone. In my swimming I seem to be strongest at backstroke and freestyle, I need to work on that breaststroke! I really enjoy jazz. Especially bebop style. I am learning to play some Charlie Parker and Monk on my horn.

Winter is a big deal for my family. If we have a cold, but snow free October and November we can skate on the glacier lake here. Then we pull out the skis for winter. Winter can last for up to eight months. We cross country ski as well as backcountry. Some winters we have almost 14 feet of snow in town. In the summer months we sail, kayak, packraft and hike. There are lots of outdoor adventures to be had here in Alaska. My family typically takes one Alaskan adventure in the summer.

The town I live in has some of the deepest snow levels in the world. There are several helicopter ski operations that work from my town. My town has been seen in many ski movies. We have around 4,000 residents that live here year round. But in the summer months the town explodes with tourists and the fishing industry. Salmon fishing is a very big deal here in Valdez.
I live with my mom, who is an artist. She works in printmaking. And my dad who is one of the town physicians. My older brother just finished university and will be moving to Seattle. I start secondary school/high school in the fall. We have one cat and one dog. But recently we just got a very cute kitten. She runs the house and we all love her.

Currently I am learning Portuguese. We have good friends in Brazil and I went there the summer of 2018 to learn Portuguese. It was a great trip and I look forward to going back.
Foi uma ótima viagem. Eu adoraria ter cartões em português.
Obrigado!

I look forward to hearing about adventures and experiences from around the world.
I just got back from seeing my brother graduate from University. And the two of us decided to make a meal for our family. It got me interested in foods from around the world. If you could write to me a simple recipe to try from your area that would be great. Maybe I can let you know how it turns out!!
