Slovakia, a long form of the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It has an area of 49,036 km² and a population of approximately 5,450,000. It borders the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. [6] The landscape is mostly mountainous, as most of the surface is occupied by highlands and mountains. From the north, the Carpathians extend here from a massive arch, and the Pannonian Basin stretches to the south. The capital is Bratislava, the official language is Slovak. |
