I found information of this monument online, and learned it also commemorates Ekaterina Dashkova, the first woman to chair the Russian Academy of Sciences - in 1782. I know nothing of history, but it certainly interests me that Russia seems to have accepted roles of women in positions of power LONG before USA even realized we were good for more than cooking, cleaning house, and making babies.
