Hungarian Pieta on Dome Square - Magyar Piéta a Dóm téren
Memorial to the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence. The (Maria like) female figure holds the perforated National Tricolor, the symbol of 1956 revolution. The paralleling of Jesus and the flag from 1956 suggest the unfair repression the Hungarian Revolution by Soviet Troops and that the possibility of national resurrection.

The monument is found on Dóme Square. The quare is bordered by elegant, northern European style buildings. On the eastern and southern side there are university institutes, while the western side is lined by the buildings of the bishop’s palace and the college of theology. The dominant building is the Votive Church built in 1931.
