Around 6 years after the photographer took this photo found out the her eyes were so special which could cure skin deseases. So they came back to find her and took her to US.

I have the original National Geographic magazine on which she appeared; they did a followup story again a few years ago and I also have the second release of that magazine with her updated photo.

This photo has a wonderful story. This lady lives in a strong woman today. I read the National Geographic magazin were had this photo in the first cover, and I read a reportage telling about the woman of today. Her name is Sharbat Gula. That haunting look of a young girl (she was 12). Eyes full of BITTERNESS and FEAR. It's a striking shot, a masterpiece of photography and colour composition, an icon. BUT, I don't understand all those of you who gaily say 'I like it' or lightly call her a lovely, beautiful, wonderful woman! The most awful moments in life, captured, that's great journalist photography. Steve McCurry has an interesting site.
