There is something refreshingly old world about it that reminds me of the pen pals I had as a child. As a way to meet new people it definitly beats the the hell out of anything Facebook, or MySpace has to offer!
If possible I’d like to receive cards that tell me something about where you live in the World. - cards of landscapes or cityscapes, pictures of local monuments or local tourist attractions, maybe picture of a famous person from your city or region, or a picture of a work of art by that person.
Black and White postcards with pictures of streets / cities or close up detailed pictures are always cool looking, and nice to receive. As are postcards with maps on them, (maps of underground systems, river routes or maps of cities / regions / countries).
I can’t say I’m a big fan of pictures of animals or flowers - however my first card received through Postcrossing was a picture of a large Elk from Finland, or maybe it was a Moose – I’m not sure of the difference -if there is difference. That was a particularly memorable card to receive.
Oh, forgot to say, I love pictures of food & drink, - pictures from a local market, or of a type of food / drink your city or region is famous for would be nice to receive also.
...and in case you are wondering my profile pic is of the inside of an old Amsterdam cafe, close to the city centre and close to where I live. I like to go sit and enjoy a good book and a glass of beer there every now and again. The cafe is called Papeneiland, one the oldest in the city - its been a cafe since 1642. A quick Google search on "Papeneiland, Prinsengracht 2, Amsterdam" will bring you lots of other pics and reviews about this cafe. If you are ever in Amsterdam it is worth going to visit. It appears on a lot of postcards as well, I think I will go buy some to send out via Postcrossing
