As a general rule, I love handmade cards and dislike AD cards (unless they're super interesting).
I like to be surprised, but if you're stuck for a subject, the following list might inspire you.
Paintings, photographs, black and white images, landscapes, animals, transportation, people, plants, insects, silly faces, miniatures, music, poems, proverbs, a sentence in a foreign language (preferably translate-able using Google), festivals, religion, food, toilet signs, interesting furniture, stick figures, finger painting.
You can never go wrong if the image is something offbeat, quirky and downright strange.
