About Marco...

Hello! Thanks for dropping by :) I'm a writer, researcher, educator, dreamer & cultural saboteur of Filipino & Anglo-Australian descent. If you'd like to know what kind of postcard to send my way: Surprise me! :) I'd be open to almost anything & everything. Really, I'm just so appreciative of all the snail-mail I receive. Actually, I'd be much more interested in what u write than what kind of card u send. Of course, what u write (or draw or paint or whatever!) is totally up to u, but if you're at a loss, then here are some ideas:

- A wish
- Your hopes & dreams
- A poem
- A favourite quote
- A secret (in the vein of postsecret.com)
- Something interesting about your region - what makes your corner of the world special to u? What do u love about where u live?
- A little story from your own life - what is something special or funny or bizarre that has happened to u lately?
- U might even like to include a recipe, as I'm trying to learn to cook at the moment
- Feel free to stick random stuff on to the back of the card too, like a sticker or coin
- Lastly, any messages in the languages specified above would be just great! That way I can practice!

As I said earlier, I'm not terribly fussed about the kind of card u send, just as long as it's not too tacky or advertising anything. If I really had to specify some preferences, though, then a general rule of thumb would be the less generic, the better! If u need further directives, here are some of the kinds of cards I'd really enjoy:

- A non-postcard postcard! By that, I mean something that's not supposed to be a postcard that's converted into one, e.g. a cereal box, a CD case, whatever! See what u can get away with :)
- Anything artsy & handmade would be just AWESOME, as I really value the intimate & the one-off! If you're not confident in your artistic abilities, maybe just make a card out of a photo that u love, & tell me why u love it :) Oh, & u know those scribbly bits of paper in stationary stores that people test out pens and markers on? I collect those, so if you're able to use one to make a card, that would be SO AMAZING!
- The postcards one can find at art museums would be highly prized too, especially if they feature works by artists from your region
- Anything beautiful pertaining to art, nature, or everyday life
- Anything quirky

Thanks so much, I can't wait to find your special, little surprises in my mailbox sometime soon! :) Oh, & if you're curious about who I am, these are a few of my favourite things: Being inspired, laughing at the absurdity of it all, subverting the dominant paradigm, finding joy & beauty in all things, living to the point of tears, seeing everyone & everything as my teachers, great conversations over wine, impossible dreams that refuse to die, love as a political concept, being in love, the world & everything in it, the worlds yet to come... Lastly, other online communities that I'm active with include bookcrossing.com and couchsurfing.org
