A brief description of my country-Taiwan:
When Western explorers first discovered the island of Taiwan, they were so impressed by its beauty that they gave it the name “Formosa”, or “Island Beautiful.” Taiwan is located about 200 miles off the coast of mainland China. With the open sea on all sides, the island enjoys a mild climate the year round. Taiwan’s location assures abundant rain and warm sunshine which cause its rugged mountains to be heavily forested, and which allow its coastal plains to be used for extensive agriculture. Rice, sugar, cane, tea and many fruits are widely grown. The population is about 23,293,593, of which nearly 3,000,000 live in or near Taipei, the capital. Almost all the people are ethnically Chinese, though there exists a small aboriginal populace known as “Mountain People,” as well as a number of other nationalities, including Japanese, Filipino, and Westerners. Typical of a modern agro-industrial nation, Taiwan depends on both its agricultural and industrial pursuits. Factories produce great quantities of goods for export, including electronic products, textiles, plastics, toys and so on. Taiwan competes on world markets and exports far more goods than are imported, resulting in a favorable trade balance and a rich economy. Other commercial enterprises include transportation, communications, banking, finance, and trade, all of which are well-developed and modern. Also, tourism flourishes not only because of the island’s scenic attractions and magnificent museums, but also because of the world-renowned friendliness and hospitality of its people. The factors mentioned herein have made Taiwan a showplace of the free world, where the citizens enjoy a very high standard of living. We should all indeed proud of our beautiful island Taiwan.

I’m Will, a high school student, 17 y.o. from Taichung, Taiwan. Pretty small as Taiwan is and hard to find out on the map, it is full of human touch. Pretty bashful as I am in the presence of foreigners, I'm easygoing and optimistic. Well...I'm poor at the communication skills, and still hope to enhance my English by sending postcards. Please forgive me if the contents of my writings were hard to understand. Getting a postcard is always such a sweet surprise, every time it’s a precious moment. Any card is welcome, you can write anything you like, and tell me about your country, yourself, hometown, hobbies and so on. At last, a small request of mine: Could you please add a photo of you on the postcard? I have a desire of receiving your postcards in reply if possible.
