About Sue...

MOM PASSED AWAY ON SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2011 AT THE AGE OF 90.
Thanks to all who sent postcards to her and made her final days a little bit happier.
REST IN PEACE MOM

Hi. My family and I are Postcrossers doug94550 from Livermore, California.

This is an Experiment.

My Mom is in her late 80's and suffers from Alzheimers.
As you know, this disease causes the sufferer to not be able to remember yesterday but 60 years ago is clear as a bell.

She is living in an assisted care facility in Northern California.

In her day, there was no TV, only radio, newspapers, and magazines.

I remember her telling me how when she was a girl it was such a big deal to receive a postcard from a faraway place.

That recollection gave me this idea. I think it would be very beneficial to her to periodically receive a Postcard from a faraway place.

And so, I created this account for her.

When you fill out your postcard, for the salutation please say "Your son Doug asked me to send you this postcard" or something like that and the same kind of chit-chat you would send to your Mom or Grandmother.

The type of Postcard she would most enjoy would be one that shows off the beauty of your city and country. And what will happen when she receives your card? She is going to show it to everybody. Yours will be a very popular postcard. Also, I know that she would truly enjoy any of the Inge Look postcards. And the Horola series is great.

Don't bother to mention Postcrossing, she will have no idea what you are talking about. Also don't worry about placing the ID code on the Postcard for the same reason.

So this is how this works...

As you read this, record the Postcard ID number.
Go to the top of the page and click on the Username.
That will take you to the User Profile page.
About halfway down is the "Send the Member a Message" field.
Click on that and send a message that you have sent out a postcard and what the postcard ID is.

I will be monitoring her account and will register the received postcards for her although I delay registration for about 9 days to keep the tracking computers happy.

If possible, please upload an image of your postcard so that we can build her postcard wall.

White Strips: Our post office uses a white strip on which they print a bar code to help move the mail. These strips are easy to peel off and do not damage the card.

Thanks for sending "Mom" a postcard. You have helped to brighten her day.

p.s. Oh yeah. If you know of someone in a similar situation, feel free to "shamelessly steal" this idea.
It's a good thing.
