Weekend giveaway: Postcard Locker!

This weekend's giveaway is sponsored by Postcard Locker. They're offering 3 lucky members a pack of 9 postcards from Guyana (where they're based), plus a mix of 6 of their popular branded postcards, which you can see below:

Postcard Locker

So a total of 15 awesome postcards for each winner! To win one of these packs of postcards, you'll have to do a bit of show and tell.

We want you to show us (and other postcrossers) which postcard you've sent illustrates an unmissable spot on your city/region, and tell us why it is special. Why should other users go there, if they happen to be nearby?

It can be anything: an impressive monument, an unique museum, a quirky shop, a quiet park, a different neighbourhood... surprise us!

For instance, if you'd ask me, I'd tell you that if you come to Berlin you should go to Vanille & Marille, because they have the best ice-cream I've ever tasted!

On the right is a postcard I've grabbed in their tiny shop, on one of our (many) summer visits.

Now it's your turn! Leave your tip below, with a link to your postcard (it needs to have been sent by you) and a short comment telling us why that place deserves to be visited.

As usual, you have a week to submit your comments below, and the winners will be selected at random by Paulo's magic script. Good luck!

If you are in Malta and it's nice and warm, then Ghajn Tuffieha is my personal favourite beach to go to. It's a bit more private and has a fantastic surrounding!

Winnipeg is located in the dead centre of Canada. For that reason I believe that the Canadian government decided to locate our Mint here. Not only does this factory make ALL of the coins for Canada inlcuding our $1 Loonie and $2Twoonie... they also make coins for more than 50 other countries around the World!!!

I loved the tour of the facility with my husband and 80-year old father - we learned so much about coins. My father is an old coin collector, and he had a blast. Definitely a "Must-See" in Winnipeg, one of Canada's un-sung great cities in Friendly Manitoba!

I can't wait to go back and see it again! Plus it's an amazing piece of local architecture too. www.Mint.ca

Come to Bloomington, Indiana, USA, to see the limestone quarries that dot the Hoosier hills. One of these quarries -- just like the one in this postcard -- was a location for the 1979 film "Breaking Away" that was about the annual Little 500 bicycle race held here every year since 1951. The limestone quarries here have yielded limestone used on many buildings in Washington, D.C.

Peru is a country of many wonders, but by far the Peruvian culture is my favorite attraction. In 2009 my husband and I visited the city of Puno, right next to amazing views of Lake Titicaca and very close to the Bolivian border. Puno is consider the folklore Capital of the country not only for its religious parties that attract thousands of tourist, but also because of its colorful display of traditional dances and music. These traditions are a mixture of the influence of Inka, Pre Inka and Spanish ancestors blend all together on time. To be part and to enjoy these traditions is a wonderful experience that I truly recommend to everyone.

In Hamilton one of the most glorious places to go is the Hamilton Gardens. They have many different themed gardens - English, Indian, Italian, Japanese and many more wonderous places to visit. You can get lost in there for the whole day. I had my wedding there. Each year they do an arts festival there for 17 days and the whole place comes alive with music, culture, arts and families.

ah memories of a wonderful journey by steam train !

The West Highland Line, running from Glasgow to Fort William and Mallaig, is one of Britain’s top rail journeys, taking passengers back to a time when steam was the way to travel. It passes through the wild Rannoch Moor, and through hills and bogs within view of Ben Nevis – Scotland’s highest peak.

One of the highlights of the journey is passing over the Glenfinnan Viaduct- one of the largest concrete engineering feats of the late 19th century (and more popularly known for appearing in the Harry Potter films).

Lovely shops, bars, nice people and the area around Bergen op Zoom is called 'de Brabantse Wal' and famous for its AAA. Aardbeien (Strawberries), Asperges (Asparagus) and Ansjovis (Anchovies). Lovely!!

El Hierro is also knows as “The Meridian Island”. Orchilla Lighthouse is the most westerly point in Europe and it was the point of the Longitude Zero Meridian until it was moved to Greenwich.

Next to the lighthouse there is a little jetty where you can take a pleasant swim. El Hierro is also known by professional divers because of its amazing seabed. But you also can enjoy it with a simple snorkel mask. The water is so clear that you can take great photographs with a waterproof disposable camera.

In Gdańsk, Poland you should visit "Park Oliwski" : http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/PL-284928 ! Oliwa Park, which surrounds the cathedral and Abbot's Palace, is well maintained, impeccably groomed, and full of quiet places to sit and reflect. Paved pathways weave under specially designed trees which make a canopy to keep you cool and dry. The Oliwa stream babbles softly in the background and often slows down to form pools and ponds for the ducks. This park is beautiful any time of year so you can have a walk in incredible surroundings anytime you want!

In one of the towers you can see the biggest clock in the republic - 3,5 m in diameter. The clock was made in Germany and is the trophy from the Second World war.

The Waalbrug is a bridge over the Waal river in Nijmegen, the city where I live. It's architecture is unique because it is an arch bridge in the literal sense, where all the forces rest on the two pylons. Besides, it survived the 2nd world war and is the location setting of the movie A Bridge Too Far which was filmed here.

I live in Apeldoorn,in the eastern part of the Netherlands. One of the attractions is Palace Het Loo, its gardens and park. Many visitors don't know there's a castle from the 15/16th century in the park, called "het oude Loo". You can see it on this postcard. It's the "weekend-house" of our royal family. You can't visit it inside, but in the months of April and May the gardens around are open to the public and you can take a walk around it.

If you come to Toruń, the first place you will visit is the Old Town. There are plenty of amazing monuments there, for example the Statue of Nicolaus Copernicus (http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/PL-298007), a famous astronomer, for whom Toruń is the place of birth. But coming back to the Old Town, in 1997 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its particular Gothic architecture. The spirit of medieval times still rises above the town, and tourists can see that while looking at the panorama of the Old Town from the other bank of the Vistula River: http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/PL-202981. Maine has beautiful shorelines and beaches and lots of interesting places to visit. This is a picture of part of its coastline. On Bailey Island there is a restaurant called Cook's. If you ever go to Amsterdam (the Netherlands) you cant mis the "Red Light District" and New Market area. NOT for the lady's in the windows but for the Historical buildings. For instand the Old Church, the oldest Church in Amsterdam, with more then 10.000 people find there last resttingplace in the church-floor. Among them the wife off Rembrandt, Saskia van Uilenburg.
Then you go to the Canal-house " our lord on the attic", à hidden church.
In the New Market area you wil find "De Waag" where Rembrandt painded his famous "anatomic lesson. And then you drop down in one of the many old Amsterdam bars, for instand Wijnand Fockink, where you can drink a jenever in a 17th century ambiance. A trip back in time.

The Mackinac Bridge is the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world, and the longest (between anchorages) in the western hemisphere. Every Labor Day, people are allowed to walk across the bridge which is 5 miles long. If you cross, you might just be lucky enough to watch a freighter or ship cross under the bridge. When crossing to the north, if you look to the left you will see Lake Michigan, and when you look to the right you will see Lake Huron. Also when looking out into Lake Huron, you will see Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel. The movie Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was mostly filmed at the Grand Hotel.

I'm found this postcard in Russia, Moscow, in a tiny little bookstore, dedicated to Alice in Wonderland story. It is an absolutely unique experience - to go to a shop like this, the atmosphere is wonderful there. Not only that you can buy books there, but also some great inventive stuff like candies, suitcases, dolls, notebooks, handmade unique things. CDs and vinyl records can also be found there :) Furthermore, if you don't have money to buy a book - you can sit there in a comfortable chair pillows, and enjoy a book with a cup of tea or coffee.
Oh, and the interesting part of this bookstore is also its location - it is just in the centre of Moscow, a so-called "Boulevard Ring", where there are old beautiful buildings, trees, theatres, coffeeshops and other things. In summer this place is heaven. You can't miss it!

Here in Houston Texas we are the 4th largest city in the USA. Texas was once part of Mexico until we gained our independence in 1835 and were briefly our own country! We later joined the USA. This card is from the Battle of San Jacinto. The monument is the world's tallest memorial column, at 570 feet (170 m). The battle ship that is pictured was once used in WW1 and WW2 here is a link to it http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/battleship_texas/hist.phtml

This is a great place to learn about Texas History and go up in the worlds tallest monument!

You can taste many delicious dishes in restaurants with typical polish cuisine, have a stroll near the Vistula river with a view on Royal Castle. Enjoy! :)

Our capital city (Bratislava in Slovakia) is not big, but it is very nice. If you take a walk in downtown, it may take you only an hour. But you will see lots of nice historical buildings. My favourite street is this one: http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/SK-16873 it is quite narrow and there is no fancy house on it... I love it because of its atmosphere - I feel like I have moved back in time...

When you come to Pennsylvania in the United States of America you should make a special effort to visit Gettysburg National Military Park.
http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/US-1034866

I believe that nothing says more about who we are as a country than our civil war. That the United States is worth fighting for, even brother against brother. (Though I very much prefer it when we all just get along.) Gettysburg is so rich in American history. You can feel the ghosts when you stand out on the battlefields. Plus there are so many amazing postcards here.

When you come to Ottawa, Canada in the wintertime, skating in the Rideau Canal is something you've got to do. In summertime boats travel on the canal, but in winter it freezes over and turns into a 7.8km-long skating rink. You can skate in the moonlight and get beautiful views of the city and parliament, and maybe even stop for a BeaverTail (a warm, flat doughnut with all kinds of sweet toppings). The image on this postcard is even more special because this is the exact view I see from my window each day!

Plus, it is the only palm grove in Europe! It is just unmissable and an UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. ♥

When you visit Mississippi, USA be sure to visit The Mississippi Petrified Forest in Flora near the state capital, Jackson. The park contains 36 million year old tree's which were deposited in this area by a huge flood before the last ice age, which have gone through the petrification process and are now stone. If you go to St Omer, north of France, you can see several historic places the cathedral, the ruins of St Bertin Abbey ... but the best thing to do is to go to the "marais" around the town. You can walk along wooden paths or ask for a boat anyway you will relax & enjoy the wildlife : especially birds, frogs, fishes ... A few inhabitants still live there, they grow veggies and have a special life style, far from comfort sometimes.

in that postcard, that is a glance of the most crowded place in Yogyakarta. it's called the 0 KM of Yogyakarta, the center of the city. there is old and historical building, State Court that the president used when Yogyakarta has to be the Capitol of Region temporarily (due to the war situation). there is also Vrederburgh Fort and Serangan Oemum Satu Maret Monument. nearby, there is Pasar Beringharjo, the most famous traditional market which sells any traditional food, the famous Batik, and many more.

it's the end of Malioboro Street, the icon of the city, where people gather and enjoy the city by chatting, watching/listening to the street musician while eating local foods.

If you ever come to Halle, 150km southwest of Berlin, Germany, you ever to visit the graveyard "Stadtgottesacker" which is the only cemetery in Italian Late Renaissance style.
http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/DE-845543
Surrounded by walls, it is located only a few steps off the pedestrian zone and main shopping street, but the atmosphere is so calm you will forget anything outside that walls. And you will learn a lot about some well-known locals buried here in the last five centuries: the parents of the composer HÄNDEL or the pietist A. H. FRANCKE.

If you come to St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, you have to go to Cape Spear. It's a 20 minute drive from the city and it is the easternmost piece of land in North America. There are 2 lighthouses at Cape Spear, the working one and the old one which is now a museum. You can tour that lighthouse. There are also cannons and bunkers left over from WWII. You can watch the whales & seabirds and in the spring you might be lucky enough to see icebergs drift by. There are walking trails along the ocean cliffs and Cape Spear is a National Historic Site. Park in Arandjelovac encompasses the area of 21.5 ha with the permanent exhibition of marble figures of the most eminent domestic (ex-Yugoslavian) and foreign authors, a product of the 30-year tradition of the festival Mermer i zvuci. The pavilion of Duke Miloš and several mineral water springs are also situated in the park. 150 year old hotel Staro zdanje is situated in the park itself, and its original purpose was the summer residence for the Obrenović dynasty.

I lived in Arandjelovac for 15 years. :-)

I would say Fjellstua (the white glass building to the left on the postcard), where you get a good view of Ålesund and the surrounding islands. I would recommend Atlanterhavsparken (the Atlantic sea-park) even more. (but I don't have any views of the sea-park uploaded at my wall now). Visit Dartmoor in Devon, climb up to Brentor and visit the tiny Church of St Michael de Rupe. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/GB-288188. Perched on a rocky outcrop there is a steep climb to it but well worth the effort. It was built between 1155 and 1162 with measurments of 40ft by 14ft, the West Tower is 32ft high. Take a look inside as well, it is beautiful. Services, including weddings, are still held there.

And I think it's beautiful.

If you ever come to Galicia, the most beautiful region in the north of Spain, you must visit the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. If you want to find your very own gem, you can go to an old quarry to Kozakov mountain and give it a try - you can also borrow a hammer there :-) Or you can climb the view-tower on the top of the mountain and take 360 degree view to the country. If you visit the beautiful peninsula of Crimea, which is located in Ukraine, then you must visit the Livadia Palace, the Massandra Palace, Chersonesus Taurica, Swallow's Nest, to see the beautiful scenery of the sea, mountains, nature of the Crimea. Believe me, we have a very beautiful place to visit!
Livadia Palace was a summer retreat of the last Russian tsar, Nicholas II, and his family in Livadiya, Crimea in southern Ukraine. The Yalta Conference was held there in 1945, when the palace housed the apartments of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and other members of the American delegation. Today the palace houses a museum, but it is sometimes used by the Ukrainian authorities for international summits. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/UA-214330
Massandra Palace of Emperor Alexander III is located in Upper Yalta on the southern coast of Crimea. Now it is the Palace Museum - a branch of Alupka palace and park museum. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/UA-178334
Chersonesus Taurica is an ancient Greek colony founded approximately 2,500 years ago in the southwestern part of Crimea, known then as Taurica. The colony was established in the 6th century BC by settlers from Heraclea Pontica.
The ancient city is located on the shore of the Black Sea at the outskirts of Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine, where it is referred to as Khersones. It has been nicknamed the "Ukrainian Pompeii" and "Russian Troy". The site is now part of the National Historical-Archeological Museum-Zapovednik of the Ukrainian Khersones Tavriysky.

I do live quite near to it in Šiauliai region, and I'm pretty proud of such a unique and sacral place being located around. I know it has already become a touristy spot (which isn't always so attractive, to be honest), but there's also something unrealistic, higher (not necessarily talking about religion) about this Hill. The tallest is South Falls (177ft/54m), the smallest is Drake Falls (27ft/8.2m), 4 of these falls have an amphitheater-like setting where you can walk behind the falls and enjoy the misty, crisp spray. In addition to hiking, there is a campground, a swimming area, an equestrian area, lodge (with food, memorabilia, & museum), picnic tables, and many other activities & amenities.

Ask anyone in Griffith about where to run and they will tell you that you should join the Ferals on a Saturday afternoon. Postcrossing user Feral and I made our own postcards to celebrate 'our' running group. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/AU-157972
We have a really wide range of participants - 4 - 80 years old, REALLY fast and walkers and everyone inbetween.
All our events are handicapped. The slower ones start first and are passed by the faster ones near the end but still have a chance to win. It works and it's special. The group have been going for more than 40 years and keeps building from strength to strength.

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is an awesome place! It has an amazing and extensive collection of all sorts of marine life. The spiral tank with the sharks is especially fun. They also have a mini rainforest on the top floor and a mini Australian habitat. You can really only see about half of it on this card; it is pretty huge.

In the picture you can see the Sugarloaf Mountain and the amazing glass-walled cable car that takes you to a wonderful ride on the sky. How wonderful? If you are visiting upstate New York and are in the "Capitol Region" you must stop by the New York State Capitol Building in heart of Albany. The New York State Capitol Building, completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million (roughly half a billion current dollars), was the most expensive government building of its time. The Architecture and Design along with the city landscaping make it a must see! (And best of all, Guided tours are available Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) and are FREE!!!)

manu_hsp, India
Anyone visiting India must definitely visit "Golden Temple" of north Indian city of Amritsar in my home state of Punjab. Golden Temple is holiest shrine of Sikhism in whole world. What really makes this temple special from other temples in India is the fact that it's most secular place in India to visit where there's no discrimination on basis of caste/faith/religion. People of all faiths are welcomed here.

Spending time inside temple complex, sitting around holy pool of water surrounding temple and listening to holy Sikh musical chants cast a magical spell on every visitor, one get instant feel of immense peace of mind/soul upon entering temple complex. Also Golden Temple is home to one of world's largest community kitchen(which is one of main tradition of Sikh religion to distribute free food to anyone visiting temple without any discrimination). Free food is cooked and served 24 hour a day to around 3000 people at one time.

Amritsar is very close to my home town. I've been sending Golden Temple's postcards ever since i joined postcrossing to postcrossers around the world. My happiness was sky high when i managed to meet two of my postcrossing friends who visited Golden Temple of Amritsar during there India visit(whom i had send a Golden Temple postcard in past). It was special feeling when those friends mentioned that they were impressed by Golden Temple's beauty when they first got it's postcard and get to know more about it and finally get to visit it as person.

Also Golden Temple features proudly on front cover of 2012 edition of world famous-"Lonely Planet's India guide book".

For me, being Indian, Golden Temple is place of great beauty and sublime peacefulness which excel the charm of Taj Mahal.

~Flores Island~
Not only visit the changing colors lake (unpredictable:sometimes, the colors are blue, green, and black, and some other times they turn to white, red, and blue, and brown-chocolate). It is a part of Kelimutu National Park, a home for exotic floras and endemic faunas, like civet or luwak (which produces the most expensive and famous coffe:Kopi Luwak). You can also enjoy the culture:in an island that spreads only 350 kilometers long, there are 5 distinct sub-ethnicities with their own languages and traditions. After this you may want to cross the sea to another fantastic island near by such as Komodo Island-the home of Komodo Dragon, the biggest lizard of the world. And when you want to go back to the west, you can visit Gili Trawangan in Lombok-another perfect gateway where you can snorkel and have parties all night after the beautiful sunset ((^o^)=b

If you're in Cambridge, England, head down to the River Cam and hire a punt. You can get one just for yourself, or you can get a guide who'll take you down the river and back.
From the river, you can see many of the famous Cambridge University buildings, and you'll go under many famous bridges, like the one on the postcard.
Punting is popular all year round!

The Calgary Stampede is world famous for fun and excitement. For ten days every July, Calgary welcomes visitors to a celebration of everything Western, Rodeos and the Cowboy. Everyone in the city dresses up in Cowboy gear, including all the stuffy businessmen in the offices downtown; everyone is wearing cowboy boots, cowboy hats, jeans and cowboy shirts. There is Country music playing everywhere, Square dancing in the streets,Western decor everywhere you look. Then at the Stampede grounds, there are midway rides, food galore and the Rodeo events like Steer Wresting, Chuckwagon Races, Bull Riding and Fireworks at the end of the day. This year will be an even BIGGER party because this will be the 100th Anniversary of the very first Stampede in 1912. The Calgary Stampede is a fantastic time, don't forget your Cowboy hat and Boots!

When visiting Dixon, Illinois, you can't miss seeing the Lincoln Statue. It honors the great American president Abraham Lincoln, and is the only statue of him in military uniform. The site where the statue is located is where an old fort was during the Blackhawk War. The site is now a park on our beautiful riverfront with a gorgeous view of Dixon's downtown section.

This is the Malacca, one of the UNESCO city in Malaysia. This famous Stadhuys Building is unofficially nickname as the "red building" by the local people. This building is in the center of all the other famous historical buildings. You can visit the St. Paul hill just located behind this building. It is one of the few hill that could look up to the open sea and here is where you can see the whole areas of the ancient Malacca city! :D

But what I love most about my home region is the San Gabriel Mountains, and all the wonderful hiking trails that are a quick drive away from the Los Angeles area! Not that many people are into hiking, so it's a great way to escape the cities and see nature; the weather's so nice and everything pretty much looks like the postcard year round.

One of the sites/sights to see near Columbus, Georgia is Providence Canyon State Park http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/US-1544398
This canyon is sometimes called the "Little Grand Canyon". It is still forming and the erosion started in the late 1800's due to poor farming practices. This is an example of man's impact on Earth and could be a lesson to take away about our impact on the environment. The top layer of the canyon seen in the postcard that is white is a layer of white sand as seen on the beaches of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. Georgia used to be covered by Ocean and this site would be a good geology lesson as well.

If you are in MUMBAI (INDIA) then you cant miss the UNESCO place ELEPHANTA CAVE
The Elephanta Caves are a network of sculpted caves located on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri (literally "the city of caves") in Mumbai Harbour, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the east of the city of Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The island, located on an arm of the Arabian Sea, consists of two groups of caves—the first is a large group of five Hindu caves, the second, a smaller group of two Buddhist caves. The Hindu caves contain rock cut stone sculptures, representing the Shaiva Hindu sect, dedicated to the god Shiva.

The rock cut architecture of the caves has been dated to between the 5th and 8th centuries, although the identity of the original builders is still a subject of debate. The caves are hewn from solid basalt rock. All the caves were also originally painted in the past, but now only traces remain.

The island was called Gharapuri and was a Hindu place of worship until Portuguese rule began in 1534. The Portuguese called the island Elephanta on seeing its huge gigantic statue of an Elephant at the entrance. The Statue is now placed in the garden outside the Bhau Daji Lad (erstwhile Victoria & Albert) Museum at the Jijamata Udyan (erstwhile Victoria Gardens) at Byculla in Mumbai. This cave was renovated in the 1970s after years of neglect, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 to preserve the artwork. It is currently maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Apart from impressive monument, an unique museum, a quirky shop, a quiet park... one can experience the different culture and festivals of INDIA...

http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/IN-16772

Raksha Bandhan (Hindi: रक्षाबंधन), (the bond of protection), or Rakhi (Hindi: राखी,), is a festival primarily observed in India, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is also called Rakhi Purnima in certain parts of India, like the south. The festival is observed by Hindus and Jains. The central ceremony involves the tying of a rakhi (sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her. The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar. It grew in popularity after Rani Karnavati, the widowed queen of Chittor, sent a rakhi to the Mughal emperor Humayun when she required his help.

In my home city of Oulu in Finland we like to be nutty in style. When you visit Australia, get out of town, past the bush and into the centre. I love this scenery, it is so 'elemental', just sky / earth / road, then you can relax, look around, and start to notice the little things.
This scene is on the Hay Plains, near my town of Griffith. The trees are the remnants of a river that maybe last flowed thousands of years ago.

Palace were built up here for the royal sojourns in Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the 10th year of the Qianlong Era of the Qing Dynasty, Jingyi Garden was set up here which consists of 28 scenic sports and was known as the famous "three hills and five parks" in the suburbs of the city. In 1956 the Garden first opened to the public. Three best routes are recommended to the tourists to climb the hill for sightseeing and each winds through respectively the northern, the middle, the southern part of the hill. Touring through the hill takes about 2 hours. The Fragrant Hills boasts of its beautiful landscape and tourists through out the four seasons. The most beautiful sight here is the maple leaves. They grow on the smoke trees and turn red after frosts in late autumn. Then all the hills are attired in these maple leaves which seem to reach the rosy clouds in the sky.

If you ever visit the state of Tennessee, make sure to visit the Great Smoky Mountains. I've only been once, when I was younger, but it is for sure a place too big to only visit one time. The Ripley's Aquarium is definitely recommended to see and going down the alpine slides. Staying in a cabin also adds to the rustic feel of the place and it is a shopper's paradise if you visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is home to the amusement park Dollywood. If you're lucky you may be able to see a black bear, if you are visiting the Smokies. I never saw one there, but I did enjoy the scenic views. A must-see spot of my hometown is definitively the UNESCO WHS in the historical city centre, i.e. the Column of the Holy Trinity. It is unique and nice example of high baroque Art of Central Europe. Besides its cultural significance, it is interesting by its story: Olomouc was the capital city of Moravia for centuries, but the city was tragically damaged in 30-year war by Swedish Army in 17th century; after that another city - Brno - became temporally capital of this country; Olomouc citizens could not accept this “humiliation” and thus they wanted to demonstrate their power not only in political issues, but also culturally and religiously and decided to built monumental column by own sources only; the column was designed, funded and constructed by Olomouc citizens only. However, it doesn’t changed the history (political capital was left in Brno, Olomouc remained only the seat of the Moravian Archbishop), but thanks to that effort we have nice example of Art :).

A spot not to miss near my hometown is the Fort Bourtange - I invite you to look at the postcard first.

http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/NL-475575

Impressive, right? Many towns and cities have such water-based fortifications in the Netherlands but Bourtange's are wonderfully well-preserved. Even the buildings inside have been reconstructed exactly the way they were in the 17 - 18th century. In this way it gives a very good image of what a Dutch fort and also a village was like in this time. Also, a lot of activities are organized, for example local cultural events or medieval markets. This spot is not to be missed!

When in Hannover, Germany you should visit the fair grounds with the Pavillion of Hope. Our fair grounds are the largest in the world. The Pavillion of Hope was one of the Expo 2000 pavillions and is shaped like a whale!
I think not only the shape, but also the name are very special!
It is used as an event and communication center now :)

It may not be a place where tourists usually go and it is located very far away from the city center, but the building is just very cute and I love how it has a meaning behind it.

If you ever are going to Finland, I`ll recommend to you visiting Rauma, on the "Church Floor", in the middle of nowhere, in a deep Finnish woodland. This is a cairn burial site of UNESCO WH from Bronze Age called Sammallahdenmäki . Usually people are going visiting to real churches and Cathedrals during their trips abroad, but here in Rauma you will have an awesome experience on the ancient sea cliffs of Lappi deep, deep in the forest. Seaside is far away nowadays, at the distance of about 25-30 kilometers. Sammallahdenmäki have 24 cairns and the biggest one is called "the Church Floor". You have to see them!

Butcher Holler is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky in the USA. It was the childhood home of Country legend Loretta Lynn and her baby sister Crystal Gayle. The song, book, and movie "Coalminers Daughter", made this cabin on the hill a place where thousands of people have came to tour it. The homeplace still has much of the original furniture and Loretta's brother Herman Webb gives tours in the summer time. I sometimes volunteer there in the summer. It is like you stepped back in time and if you have seen the Oscar Award winning movie "Coalminers Daughter" you feel like you are right there on the movie set! " ♫♪ Well I was born a Coalminers daughter, in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler. We were poor but we had love, thats the one thing my daddy made sure of. He shoveled coal to make a poor mans dollar.♪♫"

If you visit the USA come to Kentucky and stay at Jenny Wiley State Park. In the summer you can watch musicals at their ampitheatre which is located directly behind this building. Last summer I auditioned and was chosen to be in the production of "ANNIE" that they performed. It was a thrill of a lifetime! The Park has a large lake that you can go boating or skiing on. It also has cabins and a lodge you can stay at. They give Elk tours and have a couple of different camp grounds. I live less than 1 mile from Jenny Wiley State Park and I love it! It is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky♥

When you come to Florida there is a national park that you have to take a boat to see. First you drive to Key West and then get a ride to the Dry Tortugas National Park. It is made up of little islands. On one is a fort. The water is beautiful as you can see in this card. You can go snorkeling while you are there.

Cairns in Northern Queensland Australia is amazing. It lies between rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. I got this card from the Tjapukai Park on my last visit when the Indigenous Art Fair was on. Not only did I see amazing dancers and art, I visited this park and got to sample bush tucker, throw a boomerang and a spear. The dancers and workers at the park were amazing. My friend and I were the only Australians there- non indigenous and I learned so much about our beautiful country from them. Please visit and see the real ancient culture that still lives in our country.

Tagaytay is one place not to be missed if you visit the Philippines. Just an hour to an hour and a half ride in a bus or car from the National Capital Region of Manila, the delight starts with irresistible displays of fruits and local sweet treats on the side roads.

http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/PH-23987

The vendors would usually peel and slice a pineapple to sample the quality of their fruits. Most of the time, you buy around 5 fruits and they give you 1 more fruit absolutely for free!

The people are friendly and the weather is cool. There are lots of old-style, cozy, and quiet places to stay at during your visit. The place is perfectly serene with lots of beautiful chapels to visit. Most of all, you can relax with a view of a restful Taal Volcano with only it's crater visible on top of a lake.

When you come to Albany, NY, one of the best things to see is the carousel at the State Museum. Albany is the capital of New York State and it is quite nice to peruse some of the many exhibits at our museum. Some of the displays focus on the giant woolly mastodon, an Iroquois longhouse and the set and many of the characters from "Sesame Street," a children's tv show that is beloved among our youth. However, the favorite destination at the museum tends to come toward the end of your visit. Once you have finished exploring the state museum, you can head up to enjoy the carousel. It was a traveling carousel that was made between 1912 and 1916 (although the animals date much earlier) and was used from that time up until the 1970s. It eventually came to the state museum, where it has been running ever since to the delight of the locals.

First of all the postcard I'm talking about :)
http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/DE-1104698

You can see castle Wartburg on it, it was declared as UNESCO WHS and I think it totally deserves to be one. It's a place of great history and a lot of myths and stories. I love to go for a walk there if I have enough freetime, and enjoy the great nature around, that what makes Thuringia as Green Heart of Germany so special. The view down from the castle is jsut beautiful and breathtaking, so the visit ist already just because of this unique.
If you have children you shouldn't miss the traditional ride on back of an donkey there. It's a great experience.
I could continue with telling stories about it. Feel free to ask me if you're interessed in more I don't bite =)

Have a nice day!

The Living Goddess Kumari (in the centre) is something you might want to try and catch a glimbse of. Even briefly seeing her is believed to bring one very good fortune.

Partially destroyed in 1719, it was rebuilt in the early 20th Century and is now a popular tourist location.

I chose a little different postcard because I come from an industrial city of Ostrava, whose dominant feature are the steelworks in the heart of the town. It is interesting itself but what I like most about this city is the combination in its centre - industrial sites right next to original art nouveau buildings and a funcionalist town hall. And a castle from 13th century also about 10 minutes of walk from the centre!

When you come to Ontario, Canada nobody ever thinks about leaving the big city of Toronto. But there is a great museum called the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery that is just north of Toronto and down the street from my house! It is a really special place because they show Canadian art from the Group of Seven and Native and Inuit art too. The art is amazing but even the grounds are beautiful too because it is surrounded by nature from the conservation area. Some of the artists from the Group of Seven are even buried there! This museum is really cool and if you ever come to Toronto it is a hidden gem worth the drive away from the city. It really has some of the most awesome art you will ever see.

In Summer you can spend your time near to the river Odra- there is a lot of space for long walks. Sometimes, there are concerts 'at the bank of river'. The stage is then on the Odra and the sound is just amazing! In your free time you can e.g. go sightseeing to the Sea Museum (this creamy-colored building) or just enjoy the nature;). This part of the city is really worth seeing. Not because I say so, but because it is just beautiful.

Yess, Netherlands
The Netherlands have lots and lots of beautiful places to visit, so I wouldn't know which one to advise first...

But I do know which time of the year I would advise: you should come at the and of novembre untill at least the fifth of decembre. I know the weather is cold and moist then, but:

Sinterklaas is in the Netherlands! It is typical Dutch, a bit like Santa. It is especially for children: Sinterklaas and his helpers: Zwarte Pieten brings presents and sweets like speculaas (cookies) and marzipan. If you put your shoe at the chimney before you go to sleep and put a carrot (for the horse of Sinterklaas) and a drawing in it, the next morning you mihgt be surpised with presents:-)

The most important of the whole festivity is the fun everyone have, the families being together.

The park used to contain an impressive Baroque palatial complex, especially the grand Donnersmarck Palace known as "Little Versailles". Most of the palatial complex was destroyed by the Red Army during the World War II, with only the small part of it surviving.

The regions is rich in waterfalls, crystal-clear rivers, caves, canyons and a rich fauna and flora. Ideal place for rafting, snorkeling, trekking, fishing, rock climbing or fauna watching. The Blue Lake Cave is the top attraction in Bonito: you can reach the blue lake after descending 100 meters inside the cave. Owing to the enormous quantity of limestone in the ground, the water of these rivers and lakes passes through a real natural filter where impurities are deposited at the bottom of the river/lake bed, leaving them to be some of the clearest and most transparent in the world.
